Adding SolidWorks Holewizard holes on an Angle

Have you ever been frustrated with trying to add a series of holes on at an angle of even compound angle in SolidWorks? I find that the easiest way to solve this problem is to use the surface extrude fuctionality of SolidWorks. As you can see from the video we can very easily make a series of surfaces and even compount surfaces from one sketch.

What's New Solidworks 2009

SWIFT™
While most designers understand how powerful the capabilities of 3D CAD software can be, many of these same users may have felt they were forced to spend a significant amount of time mastering the system to recognize the inherent benefits. SWIFT is just one of the things that lets any SolidWorks® user realize the benefits of 3D CAD without having to learn complicated techniques. In other words, SWIFT lets you focus less on the CAD tool and more on your design. SWIFT Technology is about letting any SolidWorks user realize the benefits of 3D CAD without becoming an expert

FilletXpert

The FeatureXpert eliminates the need for a user to worry about the order of creation for filets in a model.

SketchXpert

The SketchXpert presents the users with solutions to handle any conflicts in sketch dimension and relationships.

MateXpert
The MateXpert deals with conflicts in assembly mates. Users can isolate problems, understand what mates are in conflicts and step their way to their desired mating positions.

DimXpert
DimXpert extends traditional auto-dimensioning tools by identifying manufacturing features and adding correct dimensioning schemes. This tool applies dimension and tolerance to part according to the requirement of ASME Y14.41-2003.

what's new in Solidworks 2009

TolAnalyst

Tolerance analysis is an application that determine the effect that dimension and tolerance have on part and assemblies. The tolerance tools let you perform “worst-case” tolerance stack-up on assemblies.
Click here to know more about Tolerance Analysis in Solidworks. Here i had attached a FAQ of Tolanalyst that i found from google.
Besides, i also found some videos about tolanalyst from SolidProfessor and Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHenBVKDk4s&feature=related = this is a cartoon about Tolanalyst which i think it's quite funny. Enjoy..
By the way, it's now 12.08am of 25/01/09....it's chinese new year eve. Wow.......time pass very fast.....it's another brand new year for all of us. So i would like to take this opportunity to everyone who visit this blog
"Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Chai!!"
Cheer for a better year!!

What's New in Solidworks 2009

FloXpress

COSMOSFloXpress provides qualitative fluid-flow analysis. An internal flow using a single inlet and outlet is considered. FloXpress is a cut-down version of the popular COSMOSFloWorks product – also developed by Flomerics – that enables engineers and designers to simulate complex, 3D fluid flow and heat transfer processes via a simple, wizard-driven user interface inside the SolidWorks user environment. It also helps users to consider the effects of water and air flow when optimizing their product designs.

What's New in Solidworks 2009

DFMXpress

DFMXpress allows engineers and designers to check their designs for turning manufacturability such as minimum corner radii and bore reliefs.

DFMXpress Features & Benefits

  • Explanations and recommendations that will help designers identify manufacturing feasibility
  • Basic sets of rules for drilling, milling & turning
  • Rules parameters can be configured
  • Simple Graphical User Interface
  • Seamlessly integrated into SolidWorks
  • Feature Based (works with Automatic Feature Recognition engine)
  • Leverages SolidWorks’ SWIFT technology

IDF Import/Export and PADS ASCII Import

CircuitWorks is a bi-directional system, SolidWorks parts and assemblies can be export to IDF file format and import back into an ECAD system. You can then place the remaining electrical components and interconnecting traces.

Presentation Studio

This is another FREE tool from Solidworks Labs.
This time i want to introduce "Presentation Studio"
Presentation Studio is a tool that help you to create a Design Brief, Price Sheet, Technical Summary, Feature Review, or Product Specification in minutes. (maybe just in seconds)
But unlike ordinarly PDFs, this PDF document will embedded with a 3D model that conveys your design in a way 2D just can't. The PDF can then be read on any computer with Adobe Acrobat 8 or above.
To use this tools,
1) You need to download addin from this link. http://labs.solidworks.com/Products/Product.aspx?name=pstudio
2) Open your Solidworks 2009. Go to drop down menubox -> Tools -> Add ins. Click the checkbox of Presentation Studio.

3) Now that add-in is loaded, there will be a new Presentation tab containing the Layout command. This will launch the Presentation Studio Layout Property Manager. (as shown below)

4) Choose the template layout and type in your product summary and description. Select the views that you want to show in your PDF.

5) Click Ok. Then the output will look like this. (below)

In just a few steps, we managed to generate a 3D product catalog.

Note: this add in runs in Solidworks 2009.

Happy Trying!!

"Lovely Cup"

I saw something attractive in a brochure today, so i decided to model this in Solidworks and share with anyone who log in to this blog. I quickly draw it in Solidworks 2009 and later rendered in Photoview 360. Here is the result.....

How do you think?
Valentine day is coming next month. If i managed to get a cup manufacturer or a cup manufacturer likes this design, I think this "lovely" cup will be one of the best selling items during Valentine. (dreaming..........Zzzzzzz......)
Happy WeekEnd!

Malaysia 1st Elite Application Engineer

Congratulations to IME's Technical manager, Mr. Wong~

Ok, ok, finally we have an Elite AE (application engineer). What's the big deal? Is it so special to be an elite?

Let's see, how many elites do we have in Malaysia? Hmm... so far as I know, ONE! Mr. Wong is the one, the only one! :)

Let me explain how to get awarded as alite AE:-

To receive the Elite AE award (a one time honor), individuals must pass a set amount of SolidWorks certification examinations and be recommended by your local SolidWorks technical manager. This award is designed not only to congratulate you on your success with testing, but your ability to make a difference in the user community, including the participation in local user groups and roll out events.

SolidWorks Corporation now awards reseller application engineers on an annual basis at SolidWorks World. This year, they're are going to be awareded at Walt Disney® World Swan & Dolphin Orlando, Florida! (omg!) Did i saw Mickey & Minnie?

Now, to pass an exam is not an easy job; not to mention a SET of exams! Come on, you gonna drive me crazy. But Mr Wong did it, he really did it and he is going to fly to Florida to accept his once-in-a-lifetime honor.

Guys, how about you? Do you dare to take the challenge to be the next SolidWorks Malaysia Elite? Do you think you can easily pass the SolidWorks certification examination?
As a SolidWorks user, it's an honor to get certified by SolidWorks Corp. and display it in your office or living room~

Give a try now! Click here

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year!!! I want to wish everyone healthy and wealthy in 2009... We always use this phrase in our daily life - "Give and Take"...... Sometimes i asked myself what happen if we change it to "Take and Give" - take first then give...... i repeat "take and give" for 3x times and it sound a bit weird to me, but the most important thing is it doesn't rhythm. Anyway, this year (2009) i am going to start to "give" first to follow the sequence of the phrase " Give and Take" I am going to give everyone a link to "Free Solidworks Simulation Xpress Online Training Seminar"

I think most of Solidworks user will aware that every seat of Solidworks includes SimulationXpress. It can provide basic analysis functionality for those who don't use FEA tools regularly. (like me!!)

In this training, you can
1) Perform Structural Analysis for Solidworks Part.
2) Learn when and why to use SimulationXpress.
3) Download Exercise files and test your skills in SimulationXpress.

Finally, i hope everyone can get some "value" for this training.

Happy New Year 2009!!!
