IMEDC2014 Finals Recap

I had an awesome time at IMEDC2014 Finals!

This marks the 5th IME Design Competition since 2006. We are privileged to have Dassault Systemes and SOLIDWORKS continuous support in this competition. This year, we also have the honour to have TPM (Innovation Incubation Centre)’s support to co-host the event; not to mention IET’s support in judging and sponsoring the Green Innovation Award. Last but not least, we are grateful to always have Professor Datuk Dr Ahmad Yusoff Hassan’s full support in the academic activities.

The event kicked-off with our group chairman Mr. TK Teoh’s inspiring welcoming speech, through a harmonica performance, he showed fellow students that Technology is just a tool, and how you use this tool is as important in order to succeed.

This was followed by an insightful keynote speech by Professor Datuk Dr. Ahmad Yusoff Hassan, which highlighted that in life, we cannot all the be the winner, but we can all learn through the process. It is not losing that is a failure, but not learning would be the biggest failure. He also emphasized that people rise together, so teamwork is extremely important and results in higher performance, yet lower cost.

10 groups of finalists presented their great ideas, and our dedicated judges were diligent in their judging too. Tough questions were thrown at the finalists, in the hope that they would put more thorough considerations in their design, including the mechanism, practicality, costing, analysis, and how they could use technology – ie SOLIDWORKS and CATIA in their design to fulfill design requirements – to design an innovative product that fulfill the proof of concept, with the environmental sustainability in mind.

Congratulations to the winners!

We also shared about the IME Job Placement Program, which includes professional training certification programs. This is a program that would benefit students who are looking for jobs, as well as businesses that are looking for graduates.

Special thanks to our customers who are enthusiast in building talents:
Symphony Manufacturing & Services Sdn Bhd
CITEC International Sdn Bhd
Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad

We certainly hope for more higher learning institutions to benefit from such competition, and more support from the industry, as well as Innovation Enthusiasts such as IET and TPM.
